Two men have been charged with weapons-related offences after a fire truck and a senior were shot with a pellet gun early Tuesday morning, Ottawa police Const. Marc Soucy said.

Shane Gould and Robert Nigro, both 36, were each charged with pointing a firearm at another person, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and discharging a firearm with intent to injure, according to police. They’re scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

The men are still in custody and the investigation is ongoing, Det. Rohan King said Tuesday evening.

Police arrived at an apartment building near Parkdale Avenue and Wellington Street West just before 3 a.m., Soucy said.

The victim, a 70-year-old man, was hit in the chest by a pellet and suffered bruising, he said. He was seen by paramedics at the scene and was not taken to hospital.

The truck was parked on Wellington Street West when it was hit and suffered minor damage, Soucy said.

Firefighters were responding to a false fire alarm at the apartment building when the truck was hit, he said.

Police traced the accused to an apartment in the same building as the false alarm, Soucy said, adding police have not found a connection between the two events.

Police found a pellet gun inside the apartment.

A video posted online by CBC shows police on the main floor of the Wellington Towers apartment carrying rifles, wearing Kevlar body armour and helmets, but Soucy said he could not confirm the presence of the police tactical unit at the scene.
